My First Time at DFW Fiber Festival

This spring, I had the incredible opportunity to vend at DFW Fiber Festival—my first time not only participating in this event but also traveling this far for a show. It was a big step for me as a dyer and small business owner, full of new experiences and a few firsts along the way.

Since it was my first time traveling for a festival, I had to figure out how to ship my product, manage logistics, and prepare for a setup I’d never done before. Thankfully, Habitat Decorating made it so much easier—I rented displays from them and shipped my yarn directly, which took so much stress off my shoulders. Instead of worrying about how I’d get everything there, I was able to focus on the fun part: sharing my yarn with new faces and connecting with the fiber community.

The moment I arrived, I could tell this was a special festival. The atmosphere was welcoming, and everyone—from fellow vendors to attendees—seemed genuinely invested in helping one another succeed. I was able to meet and connect with dyers, makers, designers, and so many incredible fiber enthusiasts. The sense of community was uplifting, and I left feeling both inspired and grateful.

For the show, I released a special colorway called Neverland. Watching people discover it for the first time was magical. It’s always rewarding to see my colorways come to life in the hands of makers, and the feedback I received about the vibrancy and unique combinations in my yarns truly meant the world. (If you didn’t make it to DFW, there are only six skeins of Neverland left—once they’re gone, they’re gone!)

One of the most memorable moments for me came in the form of an impromptu Tunisian crochet lesson from Mama Gwen! In the middle of the busy show floor, she took the time to stop, teach, and share her knowledge with me. That moment of generosity and encouragement really touched me—it reminded me of how special the fiber community is, where learning and supporting one another is just as important as the craft itself.

I also left feeling more inspired in my own journey as a maker. Seeing so many gorgeous crochet projects sparked a renewed excitement in me to continue exploring crochet. It was also such a treat to meet other dyers, like Crafter by Locals and Chicken Coop Yarns. Being surrounded by such creativity was energizing in the best possible way.

Looking back, this festival was a milestone for me. It reminded me how fortunate I am to do what I do, and how proud I am to be part of a community that celebrates creativity, color, and connection. Every skein I dye is more than just yarn—it’s an opportunity to inspire someone’s next project, and DFW reminded me of that in the most beautiful way.

If you’ve ever thought about attending DFW Fiber Festival, my advice is simple: go. Whether you’re a vendor or a fiber lover, it’s an event worth experiencing. It’s well organized, full of variety, and brimming with inspiration.

And as for what’s next—I’ll be carrying this energy forward to my upcoming shows, including PNW Fiber Expo. I can’t wait to share new colorways, more fiber stories, and connect with even more of you there.

Until then, I’ll be in the dye studio, dreaming up the next adventure in color
